History & Honours

The Sale Football Club was formed in 1877, originally playing under VFA rules on a property known as “Sunnyside” in Guthridge Parade. The club initially wore an all-blue guernsey.

Key Milestones

1882-1899

Sale was named “Premier Town” in 1882, 1884, and 1888 and joined the Gippsland Football Association in 1889.

1900-1945

Sale transitioned to the Gippsland Senior Premiership Competition in 1900, winning multiple premierships. In 1911, Sale first wore the black and white striped guernsey.

1954-1975

Sale joined the Latrobe Valley Football League (LVFL) and won numerous premierships under coaches like Hugh Murnane, John Nix, and Jim Hart.

1980s-2000s

Sale secured a 1986 LVFL premiership and, after grand final appearances in the 1990s, won the 2008 WGLFL premiership under Adrian Cox.

Recent Success

In 2012, Matt Ferguson led Sale to a Gippsland League premiership against Maffra, and the A Grade Netball team won its first premiership in 2013.
